  • COVID 19 AWARDS and RECOGNITION
    Updated On: Sep 27, 2021

Good Afternoon AFGE Members- Many of you have concerns regarding the the 10% Retention Incentive pay. AFGE was informed by management that this pay was brought on by the demands and incentive pay from community hospitals. Due to those enormeous incentive pay packages offered in the community we lost quite a few of Acute Care nursing staff. This 10% retention incentive for the VA will ensure acute care nursing staff will continue to provide excellent medical care and continue to choose VA as its number 1 provider and employer.  AFGE believes ALL employees who volunteered or was reassigned to support the Acute Care units during this extremely difficult time should be entitled to this 10% retention incentive. However, this is a management right to offer the incentive to those particular staff. This is a subject that cannot be bargained.

However, AFGE is advocating like hell for those of you who did not fall into the the permanent Acute Care nursing category but was reassigned or assisted in the acute care setting when the hospital needed you the most in these tough dark times during this surge.  AFGE CAN and WILL bargain for employee awards and recognition under Article 16. The awards recognize the interrelationship of work performed by employees and their continued mission to provide high quality care while servicing the veterans and the public during the COVID 19 surge. AFGE will work with management to ensure fair and equitable criteria is developed so that every deserving employee is considered.  Management has promised that they will recognize employees for their diligent efforts and unwavering service during this pandemic.  If you were reassigned to acute care services to support the COVID 19 surge and want to ensure your manager or supervisor will submit your name and the service you provided, please submit it to AFGE at once so that we will provide management that information.

AFGE THANKS YOU FOR YOUR SERVICE!!

    In Solidarity,

    Cynthia Boston-Thompson
