  • AFGE Y.O.U.N.G Coordinator
    Updated On: Apr 14, 2022

    Greetings AFGE Brothers and Sisters-

My name is Juleeun Jacobs and I am the Y.O.U.N.G Coordinator for AFGE Local 507.

What is Y.O.U.N.G?   It stands for Young Unionists for the Next Generation.

Mission: CONNECTING WITH AFGE'S UNDER 40 YOUNG TO MOBILIZE YOUNG UNION MEMBERS TO BECOME LEADERS AND ACTIVISTS FOR SOCIAL CHANGE WITHIN AFGE AND THE COMMUNITY.

Our goal, this committee will provide networking opportunities and resources for young union members to engage in mobilizing other young workers in the labor movement, union training, innovative social gatherings, AFGE conferences, and events. In doing so, Y.O.U.N.G. AFGE participants work to build lasting labor solidarity, advance issues of social and economic justice, and find more inclusive ways to engage the current and future generations in the Labor Movement.

    GOALS OF YOUNG AFGE:

    • Create and maintain tools to educate, organize and mobilize young AFGE members and to encourage nonmembers to join AFGE.
    •  Encourage mentors over the age of 40 to join the Y.O.U.N.G. AFGE program to mentor and prepare young members for leadership roles.
    •  Educate members on the importance of getting young workers involved in AFGE.

WE ARE THE FUTURE OF LABOR Throughout the labor movement, young workers are becoming more active and making a difference. Young workers are facing a world that is suffering record unemployment, soaring education costs, and widespread attacks on workplace and voting rights. AFGE and the Labor movement need all the talent, leadership skills, mobilization knowhow, and partnerships possible to shape a future based on social and economic justice. TOGETHER WE CAN MAKE A CHANGE!!

    In Solidarity,

    Juleeun Jacobs, AFGE Y.O.U.N.G Coordinator
